Turkey and Avocado Club Sandwich: A Culinary Classic Worth Mastering

This Turkey and Avocado Club Sandwich is a modern twist on the classic club sandwich. It’s layered with fresh avocado, tender turkey, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, and crispy bacon between slices of toasted bread. Perfect for lunch, dinner, or a hearty snack, this sandwich is easy to make and utterly satisfying!

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 sandwich

Ingredients

  • Bread: 3 slices of whole grain, sourdough, or your favorite bread
  • Turkey: 3–4 slices of roasted or smoked turkey breast
  • Avocado: ½ medium avocado, sliced or mashed
  • Lettuce: 2–3 crisp lettuce leaves (romaine or butter lettuce works well)
  • Tomato: 2–3 slices of ripe tomato
  • Bacon: 2 slices, cooked until crispy (optional)
  • Mayonnaise or Aioli: 2–3 tablespoons for spreading
  • Cheese: 1 slice of cheddar, Swiss, or provolone (optional)
  • Salt and Pepper: To taste
  • Lemon Juice: A squeeze to prevent the avocado from browning

Instructions

  1. Toast the Bread
Toast all three slices of bread until golden brown. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Avocado
Slice or mash the avocado. If mashing, add a squeeze of lemon juice, a pinch of salt, and a dash of pepper to enhance its flavor.
  3. Layer the Ingredients
    • Spread mayonnaise or aioli on one side of each slice of bread.
    • Place lettuce on the bottom slice, followed by turkey and tomato slices.
    • Add the middle slice of bread (mayo side down) on top of the first layer. Spread the top of the middle slice with more mayonnaise if desired.
    • Add the avocado, bacon (if using), and cheese to the second layer.
  4. Top It Off
Place the last slice of bread (mayo side down) on top of the sandwich. Gently press the sandwich to hold the layers together.
  5. Slice and Serve
Use a sharp knife to cut the sandwich into halves or quarters. Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free bread.
  • To make it vegan, swap the turkey with smoked tofu or tempeh, and use vegan mayonnaise.
  • Customize with extras like pickled onions, sprouts, or Dijon mustard for additional flavor.
